New Academic Chair Launched to Advance Dissolution-Based Recycling
DROP-IN welcomes and supports the launch of a new academic chair dedicated to dissolution-based recycling of plastic waste, a key step toward strengthening the scientific foundations of this emerging recycling pathway.
The initiative, led by Ghent University (Universiteit Gent) in collaboration with Provincie Zeeland and DROP-IN member PS Loop B.V., aims to advance research into dissolution-based recycling as a complementary solution to existing recycling technologies. This approach enables higher material quality compared to mechanical recycling, while offering a more energy-efficient alternative to conventional chemical recycling routes.
Beyond fundamental research, the new chair places strong emphasis on industrial scale-up, practical implementation, and real-world applicability. Partners will work closely together to translate scientific insights into deployable solutions, while actively sharing knowledge with industry stakeholders, policymakers, and the wider public.
DROP-IN congratulates all partners involved in this initiative and extends special thanks to PS Loop B.V. for its continued commitment to advancing dissolution-based recycling through both industrial leadership and academic collaboration.
This initiative represents an important milestone in building trust, clarity, and scientific credibility for dissolution based recycling within Europe’s circular plastics ecosystem.
